Liposuction Surgery

What is A liposuction surgery?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that is used in cosmetic surgery designed to eliminate adiposity located in various areas of the body, thus shaping the figure. For this, a cannula or syringe connected to a suction machine is used.

This technique can also be assisted by ultrasound or laser that helps to previously dissolve the fat to make its extraction easier and less aggressive.

Lipo, as many patients call it, is one of the most requested cosmetic surgeries worldwide.

It can be performed in areas such as the neck, arms, back, hips, abdomen, thighs, and legs, which is why it can be combined with procedures such as Facelift, Tummy Tuck, and other surgeries that They help to achieve more complete results in cases in which when performing Liposuction it is also necessary to stretch or remove excess skin.
A Liposuction is not a treatment indicated for obesity or overweight, but for the elimination of fat deposits located in some areas of the body or that abdominal fat that resists diet and exercise.

The cost of Liposuction can vary significantly from one patient to another since this type of plastic surgery is designed to meet the individual needs of each person.

Who can have liposuction?

The ideal candidates for a Lipo are adults whose body weight is close to the ideal, they have a firm and elastic skin with good muscle tone, but they have accumulated fat deposits in some areas which look disproportionate to the rest of their body.

It is important that Liposuction patients are healthy people, who do not suffer from life-threatening diseases, or medical conditions that may hinder recovery.

Non-smokers, with a positive attitude and specific goals regarding Lipo, are perfectly eligible for the procedure.

Those who meet these requirements and wish to mold their figure to achieve a defined silhouette, free of fat or obtain a more elegant contour, in certain areas of their body, will find in Liposuction the most appropriate treatment.

What results can I expect from liposuction?

Liposuction sculpts the figure and eliminates localized fat deposits, so difficult to eliminate by conventional procedures such as diet and exercise. Patients who perform Lipo get a perfect and fat-free silhouette.

Best Liposuction Surgery in Miami

The results of a Liposuction can be permanent. Fat cells that are removed from the body by Lipo do not grow back, but it is important to maintain a stable weight to ensure that your new appearance remains optimal.

If the patient gains a significant amount of weight in the future, his general appearance is likely to change as his body stores excess fat in other places that were not treated by  Liposuction.

Liposuction | Consultation process

Before Lipo surgery, our patients have one or several consultations with the surgeon who will carry out their intervention.
This is the right time to discuss expectations about the surgery and determine the steps to follow in treatment.

The doctor will explain to the patient how a Liposuction is performed and will give the recommendations to consider before the procedure.

Medical tests will also be required to check the patient’s general state of health.

For those plastic surgery  patients outside of Miami

For those patients outside of Miami or who, for some reason cannot go to the clinic for evaluation, this process can be done through the surgery coordinators, who will ask the patient for several photographs of the area to be treated to determine the type of treatment, the estimated price, and the general guidelines.

Many of our patients are unaware of how these photographs should be taken, which vary according to the type of procedure to be performed.

To clarify the doubts, here is a sample of the photographs that must be taken to be evaluated for a Liposuction in Miami. It is important to underline that the patient’s face should not appear in the photograph.

Liposuction | Technique, and protocol

Liposuction, also known as Lipoaspiration, is the surgical technique by which fat cells are removed from the skin through an instrument called a cannula (hollow stainless steel tube), which is attached to a high suction or vacuum machine power.

This machine removes and absorbs the fat through the cannula by removing it from the body.

There are several ways to perform a Lipo, either with local or general anesthesia.

The selection of one type or another of anesthesia depends on the patient and the amount of fat to be extracted.

Laser Lipo

In our My Cosmetic Surgery clinic, the Laser technique is used to achieve more favorable results after Liposuction.

With this, the capacity of Liposculpture is of great precision.

A very fine cannula is used at the end of which is the device that transmits the laser energy (heat) and allows the surgeon to travel the intervened areas without damaging the rest of the tissues while cauterizing the blood vessels that are being destroyed and eliminating small clusters of fat that may remain after liposuction.

In   addition, the laser itself reaffirms the treated tissue, avoiding the sagging that could be derived from the intervention.

Laser Lipo destroys adipocytes permanently and cauterizing blood vessels prevents the possibility of bruising.

It also causes the skin to adhere more easily and greatly prevents discomfort after this procedure.

Liposculpture

A variation of this procedure is Liposculpture, which has been defined as the “surgical art of returning the lines and curves that are proper to the patient.”

And it is that this surgery not only eliminates the accumulated fat in the 12 areas of the abdomen, but it is a procedure designed to sculpt the body,  give it an attractive and stylized shape.

Liposculpture can be classified into two large groups: invasive and non-invasive liposculpture.

Invasive liposculpture is a surgical intervention such as liposuction in which, while the accumulated fat is extracted, the figure is molded, thus achieving perfect curves.

Non-invasive is a combination of non-surgical treatments such as Cavitation, Mesotherapy, Diode Laser, and Radiofrequency, which have the same purpose as traditional Liposculpture, but without having to go through the operating room.

However, the latter requires constant care and discipline, as good nutrition and exercise play a  fundamental role in the balance of our physique.

Another non-surgical variant of liposuction in Miami is Lipocongelación, or Fat freezing, a new and very effective treatment for the elimination of fat that accumulates on the sides of the body, hips,  abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and arms.

This technique removes adipose tissue by applying cold directly to the area to be treated, in order to freeze the fat so that it loses thickness and can be removed through the lymphatic system…

LIPOSUCTION | RECOVERY AND POSTOPERATIVE CARE

The medical staff will ensure that you provide all the necessary advice and recommendations for a speedy recovery. Drains are usually removed seven days after surgery, always depending on how the patient reacts.

It is important to remember that postoperative care is a very important step in the success of a procedure such as Liposuction. The patient will receive follow-up to check their development and health status after Lipo.

The first appointment will take place twenty-four hours after surgery. After seven days the patient will be examined by the medical staff and the drains will be checked. At fourteen and twenty-one days after surgery, the patient will also have a follow-up appointment.

After a month, the doctor will assess the patient’s discharge. Normal activities may be resumed approximately ten days after Liposuction provided that medical personnel do not recommend otherwise.

During the postoperative period of Liposuction surgery, and once the doctor authorizes it, lymphatic massages, specially designed for such a recovery, are very beneficial. These massages improve the firmness of the skin in the treated area and favor the drainage of liquids.

LIPOSUCTION | FREQUENT QUESTIONS

Are the liposuction results permanent?

After a patient has liposuction, the new one that acquires his body is more or less permanent. Fat cells that are removed by liposuction do not grow back.

If the patient does not gain an excessive amount of weight, then the new silhouette will be permanent. Of course, the clock continues to advance, and with age, the usual changes in the body associated with the aging process occur. However, the benefits of liposuction will always be evident.

How much weight can I lose with liposuction?

Patients should not expect a dramatic loss of body weight with liposuction since this surgery should not be considered a method for weight loss.

However, because fat is removed from cosmetically important areas, liposuction produces significant improvements in the aesthetic appearance of patients.

Can I gain weight again after liposuction?

Liposuction is not a method to lose weight. To lose weight you need to have a proper diet and exercise regularly. If these measures are not taken, weight gain will continue. And the more weight a patient gains after liposuction, the less noticeable the results of this surgery will be.

Although liposuction is an excellent way to reduce excess body fat in specific areas, the fact that fat cells that are removed during liposuction do not regenerate does not guarantee that weight gain will not occur.

Patients who do not make changes in their exercise and diet routines after liposuction will be more likely to gain weight in areas of the body that were not previously problematic, in which fat cells were not altered by the procedure.

Patients who achieve the most successful and satisfactory results are those who consider the procedure as a stimulus to develop healthier lifestyle habits.

Is it better to have liposuction before or after pregnancy?

Because Lipo works best in areas where the skin has a good tone, it is usually best done before pregnancy. However, each case is unique and doctors can recommend the procedure that best suits your need before or after pregnancy.

What happens if I get pregnant after liposuction?

Pregnancy does not permanently alter the results of liposuction. If a woman performs liposuction and subsequently becomes pregnant, she will gain weight normally according to the different stages of pregnancy, give birth and then, when she loses the excess weight of pregnancy, the improvements in her liposuction will be visible again in her body, as if she had never been pregnant.

How does liposuction affect the skin? Does it produce visible scars?

The appearance of the skin after liposuction depends on the elasticity of the skin that the patient has. If the elasticity of the skin is good, it will be soft and natural after liposuction.  Scars are not a problem because this technique uses very small cannulas and therefore requires very small incisions.

Does liposuction help eliminate cellulite or sagging skin?

No. Cellulite and sagging skin usually do not improve significantly after liposuction. This surgery improves the shape of the body but does not significantly improve the quality of the skin texture.
