What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to modify the shape or size of the nose. This is one of the most common surgeries and responds to aesthetic interests.
Patients have a Rhinoplasty looking for a better-shaped nose that is more attractive to them and in harmony with the rest of their facial features.
Who can have a rhinoplasty?
- This is a procedure requested by both men and women. Rhinoplasty can be performed on anyone who is in good general health, wants to change the shape of their nose, and has realistic expectations regarding this change.
- It is equally important that the patient is old enough that his nose has finished its natural development that occurs at approximately 13 years.
What results can I expect from a rhinoplasty?
From this surgery, you can expect an important change in your facial features. By means of the nose surgery, the deviations of the septum can be corrected, increase or reduce the nostrils, modify the width of the nose, and improve its profile.
In short, it is possible to make the nose have a more harmonic and symmetrical image with respect to the rest of the face.
Rhinoplasty | Consultation process
In the consultation, the patient should ask the doctor all the questions related to the surgery. The doctor will give the patient exact instructions for the preparation of the surgery. In the office, the doctor will give the patient options about the procedure they need.
The Doctor will check the patient’s health before undergoing surgery.
Rhinoplasty | Technique and protocol
This technique highly depends on each particular case. Each patient is unique, so the consultation is personalized. Generally, there are two types of procedures in Rhinoplasty, one, the open procedure and, the other, closed procedure.
In the first one, the scars remain inside the nostrils and, in the second, the
nasal structure is accessed through an incision at the base of the nose.
Rhinoplasty | Incision methods
In the closed procedure, the incision is made inside the nostrils where there will be no scar. Once the incision is made, the doctor lifts the nasal tissues to modify the structure of the nose. The open procedure is accessed from the base of the nose. The incision is made in the tissue that separates the nostrils. The scar resulting from this procedure is virtually imperceptible.
