Known as blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a very frequent procedure in Miami. Helping to take away a person’s age through removing fat, also excess skin and lifting muscles of the upper and lower eyelids; all this makes many people keep coming to My Cosmetic Surgery for its benefits. Drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes are evidence of aging: it shows tiredness, fatigue, and it can physically damage one’s vision. If the patient considers this surgery, it can be combined with a face lift or be performed independently.

 Eyelid Surgery

Our cosmetic surgeon, Fabian Fountaine M.D., suggests this procedure should be done as early as of reaching 40 years of age, particularly in those who have long suffered from sun damage, tobacco usage, or genetic conditions. “This surgery brings back freshness to the eyes. If the eyes are the soul’s reflection, then eyelids are windows to them. The patient regains youth, and he/she looks refreshed and awake.,” describes Fountaine.

Is this cosmetic surgery delicate?

This surgery is very delicate. It also must be rigorously followed up for the patient’s successful recovery. He/she must sleep in a reclined position, must not put down their head, and cannot lift. We always tell our patients to put cold compresses for twenty minutes each hour after the first days of the surgery.

When are the stitches removed?

It is a single stitch on each eyelid and after five days, they are removed. The doctor makes it clear that both sexes are welcomed to My Cosmetic Surgery. An evaluation is done that includes a medical history check, an examination of the eyes, and an explanation of the procedures to follow. The patient is given local anesthesia and sedatives.  The surgery takes up to three hours depending on what kind of work needs to be done on the eyelids or if it is associated with other surgeries.
The incisions are done in the natural lines of the upper eyelid and under the eyelashes of the lower eyelid. It is through this procedure, the skin with fat is separated from the muscles and it is possible to remove theextra skin and fat delicately. Stitches suture the incision leaving almost no scars which disappear over time.

Are there possibilities of complications after the surgery?

There can be rare complications like hematomas and fibrosis, and surgery might be repeated.  But I tell you with great confidence that with a well-developed surgical procedure as ours, there is little possibility of doing that. In general, our patients recuperate in a progressive way in their daily lives. The can watch T.V. or read in three to four days, and return to work in a week. Rigorous activities could be avoided for ten days.
